Vacation in Glacier National Park

Attracting nearly three-million visitors each year, Glacier Park’s incredible scenic beauty, endless adventure and unforgetablenatural wonder speaks for itself. A vacation to Glacier Park is a nature lover’s glimpse of heaven on earth. With nearly one-million-and-a-half acres of all-natural adventure, there is plenty to see and explore and even the most adventurous outdoorsman or woman will find it impossible to experience everything that the park has to offer.

If you like to hike, bike or cross-country ski, then you will fall in love with Glacier Park’s 700 plus miles of backcountry trails which range from short easy day hikes to multi-day backcountry excursions. Glacier’s multitude of trails offer a variety of terrain, scenery, and elevation gains. With all of Glacier’s diversity and various offerings, there is a perfect Glacier Park vacation itinerary available for every adventurer, regardless of physical ability and/or personal desire.

Even if you don’t like to hike, fear not, because foot-power is only one of many ways to enjoy Glacier Park. Glacier also offers one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the United States. The “Sun-Road”, which was built in the 1930’s, is a major engineering marvel of epic proportions. Going-to-the-Sun-Road traverses the park and connects St. Mary village on the eastern perimeter of the park with Apgar village in the south-west corner of the park.

During the 2007 season the national park service introduced a free transit system to Glacier Park. This popular service offers free shuttle rides approximately every half-hour between the Apgar transit center on the west side of the park, (located near the southern shores of Lake McDonald), and the St. Mary transit center on the east side of the park. The ability to relax and enjoy the beauty of Going-to-the-Sun highway without worrying about keeping an eye on the road has proven to be a popular new feature for Glacier’s many annual visitors.

With close to a million-and-a-half acres of pristine scenery, wildlife and adventure, Glacier National Park is a vacation destination which will be hard to leave, and impossible to forget.
