Literary agents are so hard to find these days. What’s up with that? I have a very good manuscript that I have sent to most of my friends. Everyone says the love it. Some people even say they can’t put down my novel.
But, I can’t get a book agent interested? I must have sent out at least 50 query letters last month. If you are interested, I would like to tell you what I’m going to try next. I read it in a magazine and I think it is worth a try.
My Dad always said, “Start with who you know.” I’ve decided to write down a list of all my friends and start asking them if they know anybody who has written a book or published a book or anyone who is an agent. Then I’m going to call these people up and ask the same thing. You figger, I’m bound to find someone who knows somebody.
To keep myself busy I think that I’m going to enter some writing contests. My high school teacher said, “What ever you do keep writing”. Maybe I might get lucky and find a book agent who is a judge that reads my work.
I also heard someplace that you don’t always need an agent. I could find some of the smaller publishers listed in those publishing directories and approach them myself. It’s probably worth a try. Even if they don’t like me I’m going to ask for a referral to an agent they may know.
I’m still young. I will not give up on finding a publishing agent or publisher. My stuff really is good.
There are a few skills that we all need in order to make a success out of our personal and private lives and when we look at the landscape of the characteristics of those around us, we can see that it is those that are bursting with large amounts of self confidence that are seen to progress and succeed amongst us. It is the ability of going the extra mile and exercising self motivation and doing those things that we have to do when we feel that we do not want to do it that will determine the quality of the results that we get in our lives.
When we look at the lives of those people who have accomplished the most in our midst we can see that they have developed the character for perseverance and self motivation and that is the key component of their success and results. The mistake many of us make is to look at the results of those that we wish to emulate and fail to actually look underneath their results, look at their personalities and see that they understand that success and perseverance go hand in hand and in no way can be separated. If we too develop self confidence, we can succeed.
If we take our corporate careers; getting out there in front of people and being masters of public speaking seems to be one of the things that sit at the top of the pyramid. That is to say, when we develop key presentation and communication skills - we are seen to be more valuable to our companies and that then becomes a key component of our success. Pay attention to your levels of self motivation, levels of perseverance and public speaking skills and improve your life.
