Learn How-To “Live at Home” Longer

Most people want to live at home for as long as they can. We dread thinking about having to give up our “freedom” and “independence” as we get older. I am sure you and your loved ones are no exception. But getting around becomes more difficult the older we get. How can we modify our current dwelling to ease our mobility and balance issues as we age? ConcerningAging.com has created a section named, “Home Modification“, which deals with just such issues.

In our article about “Home Modifications“, you will find information about why seniors need home modifications, what modifications are right for you, and how you can pay for your home modifications? Modifications can range from something as simple as replacing cabinet doorknobs with pull handles to full-scale construction projects that require installing wheelchair ramps and widening doorways. Research by the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that home modifications and repairs may prevent 30% to 50% of all home accidents among seniors, including falls that take place in these older homes. To learn more, come to our Home Modification section and choose our “Fact Sheet: Home Modifications” article.

Falls are always a great concern as we get older. Falls can devastate the life of an older individual. We can do things to minimize the likelihood of falls in places where seniors will be spending time. Our article, “Preventing Falls“, can help you identify potential dangerous situations and guide you in reducing or eliminating their risks. To get more details, visit our Home Modification section and choose our “Preventing Falls” article.

ECUADOR - one state with four genuinely distinguishing geographic regions

The three main geographic regions on the mainland are:

  • The coast also designated “La Costa” on the Pacific Ocean
  • The highlands also named “La Sierra” which means the mountain range of the Andes running from North to South through the whole country
  • and the Amazon rainforest also named “El Oriente”.

The Galapagos Islands - the fourth region is an insular region in the Pacific Ocean.

All this makes Ecuador to one of the most variegated countries in the world. Ecuador is besides Chile the only country in South America that has no border to Brazil. In the north you find Columbia, in the east and south Peru and in the west there is the Pacific Ocean. The name Ecuador risesfrom fact that the country is located at the equator. This explains also the small variation in daylight hours over the year.

We discovered a part of the Andes doing some trekking. Main ambition was to climb the volcano called “Cotopaxi”. Cotopaxi is 5.897 m high and is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world and the second highest mountain in Ecuador. Because it is so high it is important to acclimate before climbing this mountain. So we did some other ascents before to volcanoes like “Rucu Pichincha” near to the capital Quito and the “lliniza Norte”.

These trips were only amazing, just imagine standing there over 5.000 m on the top of a mountain after walking from midnight to the sunrise through the darkness and then all of a sudden the sun rises it gets bright and you are looking to the valley above seeing the sun rising above the clouds and there is nothing else just the glacier that twinkles in the sunlight and the sun shines so bright that you nearly cannot see - only the blue sky behind… you cannot describe it you have to experience it - it is amazing…

My conclusion for this trip is that it was just perfect for Trekking in Ecuador. The diversity of this country makes it a worthwhile experiences.

Top Ways to Take, Display and Store Your Photos

One of the best ways to remember special occasions such as family holidays, weddings and birthdays is by taking photographs. However, you will want to ensure that the pictures are good quality, which can result from a number of things. For example, how good the digital camera is can have an effect on the resolution of the photo, and how good the photo is displayed can result from the quality of digital picture frame.

There are usually only 3 main things that we think about when buying digital cameras; the price, features, and megapixels. The top rated digital cameras can obviously cost the most usually. For most people though, 3-4 megapixel cameras are usually all you need as they can provide good quality pictures. It is a good idea to compare a number of models before you buy as some will have features like digital zooms.

The prices of digital cameras can start from as low as $40, which can be great purchases for children. Of course you might expect fewer features than with more expensive models, although for a lot of people they can certainly do a good job.

For professional photographers, the quality of print is highly important. A slide scanner can be an excellent buy, especially for small projects. For the best pictures it is recommended you buy slide scanners that are capable of 4000dpi or better. Some photo slide scanners are improving but are generally not yet capable of printing as well as dedicated slide scanners.

Of course, the way a lot of us like to display pictures is by using them in picture frames around the home. The digital picture frame is a great way to display all your pictures, and you are obviously not limited by such things as wall space like you often are when using traditional picture frames.

To find a frame that fits in to the decor of your home and has the features you require, it can certainly be worthwhile to read digital picture frame reviews. Among the features that come with digital frames you should take note of the resolution for clearly displaying your photographs, the memory capacity, display size, frame style and design, and aspect ratio. In addition, there are models of digital frames with video and audio capability, calendar, clock, bluetooth, and temperature features.

Like most products there is a huge range of slide scanners, digital cameras, and digital picture frames available online to suit most preferences. Take some time to look around at some of the models before you buy.

Wireless Pet Fence Can Save Both Money and Time

Wireless dog fencing can offer many benefits to you. Do you want to keep your dog in your yard without a fence? Is your dog an escape artist? Do you enjoy traveling with your dog? Would you like to own an underground dog fence, but don’t have time to spend on installation? Are there some rooms in your house where your dog should not be? If your answer to any of these questions is “yes,” you may want to consider the advantages of a wireless dog fence.

Dog fence is becoming very popular nowadays. If your bank account is a concern then a wireless dog fence is a good option saving lots of money spent on a physical fence that can be dug under. Do you want your dog to be safely contained but to be able to exercise too? This is the thing for you! A wireless dog fence is safe, affordable, and easy to install. You can’t see it and no one knows it’s there except you and your dog.

Some brands can be used inside or outside giving you flexibility to control their boundaries inside too! And because they are easily portable, traveling is a cinch when you use wireless dog fence! Lastly, if you already have a fence and your dog is an escape artist, a wireless dog fence can help solve this frustrating problem. You can even teach your dog to respect your physical fence if they are consistently kept within it, but most dogs learn it’s the collar they need to respect.

When choosing a wireless dog fence for your dog, keep in mind a few important details. We always recommend that you purchase your system from a reputable manufacturer with a good warranty, for peace of mind right from the start. Examples include Petsafe, Innotek, and Perimeter. Make sure that the system you choose is suitable for the weight of your particular dog. Also, you may want to consider purchasing an additional transmitter which can be used to enlarge the area. If your yard is sloped at an angle, then a wireless dog fence may not be the best option. And we strongly recommend that you should buy a model that can be adjusted to several correction levels.

Once you have purchased and have your wireless dog fence in hand, it should only take a few minutes to install using the instruction manual which will be included. Your home and your garage are both a good place to put the transmitter where it will not get rained on! You can then place the wireless dog fence collar on your dog and begin training him; do not neglect this essential part of the process.

Some dogs may take longer than others to learn the boundaries, but the average is a few weeks. Persistence and consistency in training will pay off. You should always supervise your dog for the initial period after the installation of your wireless dog fence. Flags would be a good idea to show your pup where he’s supposed to be. Keep him on a leash at first, and set the correction level on his collar to the minimal level. Then follow him on the leash, allowing him to explore until he reaches the boundary and receives a mild shock. The shock is made to get your dog’s mind on the line that you set. It is similar to the shock you receive from the carpet when you rub your feet on it. Pull back and praise your dog after they receive the shock.

Give treats if you want to make your training better. Your dog may learn to respect the boundary within one or two times, or it may take a bit longer for him to understand. He will eventually learn, however, and then you will be able to remove the leash. Continue supervising him without the leash for awhile, until you feel very confident in observing him respecting the boundaries of the fence at all times. The method for training a dog to an radio dog fence is very similar.

Wireless dog fence is a great new thing today, and is good for dog owners as an affordable fence for their dog. While there is no perfect solution to keep our dogs contained and safe, inventions nowadays such as the wireless dog fence are getting much closer!

Traveling Around The Oceans Of The World

My parents raised 4 kids and helped to raise 6 foster children as well. When it was time for them to retire, we children chipped in to send them on a cruise trip they would never forget. We pooled our money together and went to Carnival Cruise coupons to arrange for a world cruise. Raising all of us didn’t leave them much time to see the world outside our neighborhood and we wanted to give them a gift to show our appreciation for all they had done for us. Only a Grand Tour around the world would fill our desire.

Stops and Ports of Call
Carnival Cruise allowed us to buy a tour they would never have been able to afford. They visited ports such as China, Syndey, Kenya and Singapore. In China they spent time at such attractions as Lantau Island and the Po Lin Monastery. They soaked up some sun at Cheung Sha Beach. My grandparents felt like quite the world travelers as they asked on the sand.

In Mombasa they got a taste of adventure when they explored Mombasa National Park and Reserve and went snorkeling at the Marine Reserve Area so they could see for themselves the beautiful coral reefs that support so much of the ocean life. You can access the marine park from the beaches of Shanzu, Bamburi and Nyali. We didn’t believe it ourselves until we saw the photos they took during such an amazing feat.

In Singapore they saw the Singapore Discovery Centre so that they could begin to understand the Singapore Experience. These are just three of the exotic ports of call they loved.

On Board Ship
Exquisite dinners, dancing, gambling, and a wide array of activities were ongoing on board in which they took part in. On days when they needed to take a breather from all the fun and excitement, they lazed around the pool and made friends with whom they still keep in touch. The beauty of sunset upon the ocean is a sight that must be seen to be believed they told us.

When you are ready to set sail anywhere on the globe you should check out Carnival Cruise so that you can book your vacation and sail exotic ports this world has to offer!

AC/DC Clamp Meters & Clamp On Multimeters

There are many ways and methods to measure electrical current.  One method most commonly used is running current through a known resistor. Voltage drop over this resistor is determined by the current and the resistor value. Many clamp-on multimeters and clamp-on current measuring adapters that can measure AC current are built in this way.

Some clamp-on multimeters can also measure DC currents. But instead of trying to describe how they work believe me they do and if you want a fast reading on how much amperage is flowing through one of your vehicle’s components then this is a perfect match for a fast look. Gone are the days when you hook this wire here and that wire there and then all of a sudden there was a crackling sound with smoke coming up and you had a burned up multimeter.

Of course with traditional clamp-on current meters, measurements can only be made on single conductors. If you need to measure current in multipair cables this usually needs covers to be moved to gain access to individual wires. But now there are some new special clamp on multimeters that can measure current in multi-core cables and power cords without the need to split them.

A low cost AC/DC clamp meter will usually do most of the simple light duty jobs that you may encounter in your repair work but, of course, if you are a professional then you need the best and latest technology available. There are many clamp on meters to choose from so do yourself a favor and decide what is best for your needs.
